Starting Out? Get Your First 1000 Subscribers
Have you heard the phrase: "If you build it they will come"?
it's often a statement used to stir entrepreneurs to create something new. It's a statement full of vision, hope, and optimism.
There is one problem though.
It does not work!
Building something new online is only the first step towards online success. Getting the word out and effectively delivering your message is the REAL KEY to building a valuable and profitable business.
However, In today's noisy crowded market, where there are far more choices but less time to choose, people can no longer be easily reached by traditional marketing methods.
As content becomes ever more readily available, people's time and attention is becoming more scarce.
And If you thought this was going to change anytime soon, think again. The more content is created, the more scarce attention is going to become.
This is where having your own email subscriber list can be a GREAT asset.
Unlike advertising where your message is largely ignored, or social media where it is partly seen, email marketing can effectively (cost-wise and results-wise) get your message out to those who are most interested in seeing it.
You see, when someone decides to subscribe to your list by email, they actually want you to contact them. This in turn provides a golden opportunity to develop and grow relationships with your subscribers.
I think you'll agree with me that this is a far more effective approach than mass media in attracting customers.
Just imagine what you can do with an email list of targeted, interested and loyal subscribers who are happy to tell the world about your business...
But what about social media you ask?
I'll make my answer short.
1. Social media is busy and crowded. Email is one-on-one.
2. Social media profiles are all owned by companies. Your email list belongs to you.
3. Social media is ignored and drowned out in the zillions of shares and tweets out there. Everyone reads their email.
The bottom line is this:
If you want to establish a long-term relationship with your visitors and effectively get the message out about your business, you MUST start building an email list today.
I recently took the time and wrote a short 4-step eBook called "1000 Subscribers". Each step in this guide provides practical methods for building, using, and growing your first 1000 subscriber list. It covers topics such as:
- How to setup your email list the smart way
- What you should send to your list
- How to automate your email list
- How to grow your subscribers quickly

Why 1000 subscribers?
A few years ago, Kevin Kelly wrote a brilliant article about finding your 1000 true fans. (If you have not read it, go read it!)
In Kelly’s words:
"...anyone producing works of art - needs to acquire only 1,000 True Fans to make a living. A True Fan is defined as someone who will purchase anything and everything you produce. They will drive 200 miles to see you sing. They will buy the super deluxe re-issued hi-res box set of your stuff even though they have the low-res version. They have a Google Alert set for your name. They bookmark the eBay page where your out-of-print editions show up. They come to your openings. They have you sign their copies. They buy the t-shirt, and the mug, and the hat. They can’t wait till you issue your next work. They are true fans."
The premise of Kelly's article is that 1000 true fans might be all you need to sustain your business.
Now, 1000 email subscribers are not necessarily 1000 true fans and might not be enough to make a living from your business. However, similar to Kelly's approach, 1000 email subscribers can be the tipping point for gaining real traction in your business.
In fact, you can be fairly positive that any avid true fan of yours would like to be on your email list. In other words, building an email list brings you a step closer to your true fans.

P.P.S one last thing. Don't attach too much significance to the number 1000. It could be a bit more or a bit less. 1000 is just something we can wrap our minds around - it's a challenging task but at the same time doable.
