Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971), also known as "Satchmo" or "Pops," was an American jazz musician, singer, and bandleader. He is widely considered one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz and one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

Armstrong was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and began his career as a teenager playing the trumpet in local brothels and on riverboats. He quickly became known for his virtuosic trumpet playing, his powerful and distinctive singing voice, and his charismatic stage presence. In the 1920s, he moved to Chicago and joined the band of King Oliver, one of the most influential jazz musicians of the time.

He recorded and wrote many of the standards of jazz, including "What a Wonderful World," "Hello Dolly," "Star Dust," "La Vie En Rose," and "When the Saints Go Marching In." He also appeared in several films, including "Pennies from Heaven" (1936) and "A Song is Born" (1948).
